Equalisation - This is Your Life
By day, Equalisation producer Tim Pitt works in the construction industry as a Commissioning Manager. Outside of that he spends more time than he does at work in the evenings and weekends writing and producing music
‘I grew up in Africa and so it wasn’t until we moved to Ireland when I was 11 that I saw Top of the Pops for the first time and got the bug for making music. It was at that time I’d started piano lessons. Until then the only TOTP I knew about were the Pickwick compilations which featured Glamour Models on the covers. My dream in those days was to be on TOTP’
In pursuit of his dreams, Tim has been in various bands over the years and supported Public Enemy in 1988. Eventually with his band Men United he was signed by the Warner Bros imprint East west in 1993. The highlights were recording at Abbey Road Studios and meeting Zig and Zag and being interviewed by them and Chris Evans on The Big Breakfast
But it wasn’t a happy time as he felt like the record company had taken over and he had lost control and so walked away from it. However he has continued to make music ever since, honing his craft and creating his unique sound
‘Whilst I enjoy all types of music, there is something about Electronic music that I’ve always loved making. And even after all these years I get excited creating new electronic sounds’
My early influences come from producers such as Giorgio Moroder, Vangelis and Trevor Horn and many of the synth pop bands that emerged in the late 1970’s and early 80’s. I embraced the club scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s and was further influenced by the dance music that emerged at that time. It wasn’t unusual in those days to be out clubbing two or three times a week.
‘This is your Life’ comes from his forthcoming album out In March 2020
