Robbie Fitzsimmons Releases New EP ‘So Says the Sound’
LA based singer-songwriter and pianist Robbie Fitzsimmons recently released his new EP,
entitled So Says the Sound, which, along with his forthcoming long player, Blue Meets Orange,
is a love letter to listeners and fellow creatives who live with their own unique challenges,
Fitzsimmons is in the middle of a 45-week rollout of additional new songs that includes dropping
a new single every six weeks. Each song being released throughout 2024 is a step in Robbie's
intimate journey with bipolar disorder, where the interplay of blue—the color of depression—and
orange—the hue of mania—creates a vivid palette narrating tales of resilience, recovery, and
self-discovery.
Fitzsimmons is no stranger to the music industry, as he has spent a good portion of his career
not only writing his own music, but also working behind the scenes with some of the biggest
artists and industry producers.
Mentioned in songwriting by Paul Simon, Fitzsimmons has performed around the world at
Glastonbury, Burning Man, Coachella, EDC and at private parties for Elon Musk, and HBO. He
holds Platinum RIAA status for his work on Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence,” and takes pride in
extending his gifts into the world of other artists.
Encompassing six tracks, the EP begins with the title track, opening on a swaying rhythm
blending alt-rock and hints of bossa nova. Gleaming guitars give the melody sparkling accents
as Fitzsimmons’ delicious falsetto imbues the lyrics with charming textures.
Entry points include “Powerful Man,” a personal favorite because of its sashaying flow,
syncopated rhythm, and braying-lite organ. Decked out in swinging sonic layers vaguely
reminiscent of Dire Straits, the melody sparkles on a contagious structure that bends
sensuously back and forth.
Flickering percolations form the intro to “Making Castle,” infusing the tune with tints of luscious
sleaziness that’s highlighted by Fitzsimmons’ spellbinding, soaring vocals that ebb and rise on
wickedly lustrous tones.
For some reason, “Wake” conjures up suggestions of Queen because of its grand operatic
surfaces and symphonic rock ambiance. Fitzsimmons parades the scope of his voice, ranging
from tender and delicate to elevated crescendos.
At once dizzying and beautifully persuasive, with So Says the Sound, Robbie Fitzsimmons
enthralls listeners with his unique vocals and stylish melodies.
