"Play With My Hair" is about that moment of holding your breath, knowing that your heart is about to break into a million tiny pieces, and wanting to hold it off just a little longer. It's about wanting to be comforted by the same person who is causing your heart to break, and I think there's something so delicate and bittersweet to that.

It's only 'cause I'm half asleep, in a minute it'll hit me. You're halfway between asleep and awake, and for a moment you forget about the heartbreak, only to have it all come crashing down on you again. I could literally map that feeling in my body as I wrote those lyrics, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced that kind of gut-wrenching emotion.
